BionatorsRegents Dental Group can assist with bionator appliances. This orthodontic appliance is designed so that each time the patient moves his jaw, swallows or talks, it activates the appliance, which exerts gentle pressures on the teeth and dental arches. The bionator works naturally to properly redirect a patient's jaw growth during normal development. The patient should practice talking with their teeth together. More rapid treatment results if talking is done with the teeth together in the appliance. In the first few days, the patient may have slight difficulty with speech. In most cases, the patient gets use to the appliance quickly and can speak well after three or four days. After a short while, the excessive salivation will diminish. If your bionator also has a headgear, specific instructions will be given at the time of headgear delivery. In general, the headgear should be worn each night for the recommended number of hours. The headgear will increase the effectiveness of the appliance. Without cooperation of the above instructions, there can be little, if any improvement. With good cooperation, one can achieve the maximum results in a minimum amount of time. Teamwork between the patient, parent and orthodontist is essential for best results. Early intervention is critical between the ages of 8-12. Bionators are perfect for overbites and/or the upper jaw extending further than the lower jaw. |
